Subscription Options

We offer three subscription tiers:

  1. Tourist: A free tier with limited capabilities that will allows users to create private trips and get a feel for the product. Includes advertising.
  2. Pro: A paid tier that removes onsite advertising and enables most Tripline features, including the ability to add fellow travelers to your trips. Notably, the people you add don’t need to be pro users. So only one person in a traveling group needs to have a subscription.
  3. Guide: A paid tier designed for travel businesses. It includes everything from Pro plus SEO benefits and the ability to embed maps on external sites with no advertising or Tripline branding.

Subscriptions are offered on an annual basis and are not refundable once purchased. Please review our Terms of Service for information on upgrades, downgrades and cancellations.

To activate or manage your Tripline subscription, please visit https://www.tripline.net/subscribe. If you have any questions, send an email to support@tripline.net and we’ll get back to you right away.

Additionally, please review our Terms of Service for more details about charges, cancelations and refunds.

Why did you launch subscriptions?

We launched subscriptions to fund ongoing product development and keep the platform growing. The subscription model allows us to focus our efforts on building the best product for you, our users. This is our only focus. Read more in our post announcing the subscriptions launch.

What subscription tiers do you offer?

We offer three tiers: Tourist (free, limited), Pro and Guide. For more detail, read our post about Subscription Options.

I use Tripline to plan trips with friends. Does everyone have to subscribe?

No. Only one person in a group needs to have a Pro subscription to create trips, add people, photos etc. Everyone that you add to the trip will automatically get access to Pro-level features for the trip they’ve been added to.

I’m a teacher that uses Tripline with my students. Do I have to subscribe?

We have a special program to provide Pro access to educators at no cost. To find out how to join the program, please read our post on Access for Educators.

Do I have to create an annual subscription?

Yes. We offer annual subscriptions only, billed automatically every 12 months.

What happens if I upgrade or downgrade my subscription?

When you upgrade (e.g., from Tourist to Pro), you will be billed immediately and you will get access to features right away. When you downgrade (e.g., from Pro to Tourist), you will keep your current tier access until the end of the billing period, at which point your account will change to the new tier automatically.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

If you cancel your subscription, you will retain access to your current tier until the end of the billing period, at which point your account will revert to an unsubscribed account with limited features.

At that point, any trips you have created will remain available to you, although they will be set to private and you will no longer have access to Pro features like adding people, adding photos etc.

I already have trips that I’ve created in the past. What happens to them if I don’t subscribe to Pro?

If you don’t subscribe to Pro, your trips will be set to private and you will no longer have access to Pro features like adding people, adding photos etc. We won’t delete any of your content.

What happens if I cancel my Tripline account?

If you cancel your Tripline account, we will immediately remove all of your content from the service and cancel your subscription.

Do you offer refunds?

As specified in our Terms of Service, we do not offer refunds. In special cases, we may offer prorated refunds for users who cancel their Tripline accounts shortly after purchasing a subscription, but that’s a special case.

How are you planning to enhance Tripline in the future?

Access For Educators

With our recent launch of Subscriptions, many Tripline features are now only available with a paid subscription. However, in order to continue allowing educators around the world to use Tripline with their students, we’ve developed a special process to grant special access to Tripline at no charge.

Step 1: Request Educator Access for yourself

  1. If you don’t have one already, create a Tripline account for yourself using your official email address (e.g., jkeating@welton-academy.edu) Note that .edu isn’t required, but the email should have the same domain that your institution uses.
  2. If you’re creating a new Tripline account, be sure to verify your email address in Tripline. You’ll get a verification email after signup and there are links on the site. It only takes a second.
  3. Using your official email account, send an email to support@tripline.net with the subject line “Requesting Educator Access”. Include your Tripline username, a link to your institutions’s website, and let us know approximately how many students you have and what sort of project you’re working on. If you’re ready now, you can click the button below, or you can send us an email manually later.
  4. As soon as we verify your request, we’ll grant you special access and email you back. Turnaround will be quick during US business hours, but may take longer if you’re outside the US due to time zones.

Step 2: Create placeholder trips for each student

  1. In your Tripline account, create placeholder (empty) trips for each student. It’s probably best to add their name or initials to the title so you remember which is which. You can keep the trips private if you’d like.

Step 3: Add students to the trips you created for them

  1. Have each of your students create free Tripline accounts. Make sure you know which email address they use for their accounts or ask them for their Tripline username. Note: It’s not required for them to verify their email addresses, but they can if they want.
  2. Go into each of the placeholder trips you created in Step 2 and invite each student to their individual trip as a Traveler using the Add People feature. It’s probably easiest to invite them using their email address, but you can invite by Tripline username as well.
  3. Each student will receive an invitation to their individual trip by email. If they don’t have access to email, they can log in to Tripline and they’ll see the invitation on the Home page Inbox section. If they’re already logged in, just have them refresh the Home page and the invitation will show up.
  4. Once they accept the invitation, they’ll have access to edit the trip on their own and it will show up in their list of trips. The only thing they won’t be able to do is delete the trip.

That’s it. A bit more effort on your side, but not too much. We’ve already tested this process with several teachers and they’ve told us that it worked smoothly. If you have any trouble, please email us via support@tripline.net.

We’re excited that so many educators are using Tripline and we’re committed to making it available to you at no cost forever. From our perspective, every student that knows a bit more about geography makes the world a better place, and that’s worth a lot to us.
