How do I embed a map in a WordPress blog?

Embedding a Tripline map  in a WordPress blog is as easy as embedding a YouTube video…in fact, it’s the exact same process.

If you have a WordPress blog that you host yourself

  1. Go to the map page on the Tripline site
  2. Select the Share option in the dropdown on the [EDIT MAP] button
  3. Copy the player embed code
  4. Go to your WordPress blog
  5. Create a new post
  6. IMPORTANT: Switch to HTML view by clicking on the HTML tab at the top right of the post editing form.
  7. Paste the embed code in the body of the post
  8. Publish your post!

Here’s an example of how it looks:

If you have a free blog hosted on wordpress.com

WordPress has recently disabled the ability to embed IFRAME objects (like the Tripline player) on free blogs hosted on wordpress.com.  If that’s the type of blog you’re using, your best option is to embed a thumbnail image for your map that will point people to the Tripline site.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Go to the map page on the Tripline site
  2. Select the Share option in the dropdown on the [EDIT MAP] button
  3. Copy the code from the “Thumbnail” field
  4. Go to your WordPress blog
  5. Create a new post
  6. IMPORTANT: Switch to HTML view by clicking on the HTML tab at the top right of the post editing form.
  7. Paste the embed code into your post
  8. Publish your post!

    Hi TripLine,

I’d love to include TripLine embeds in my WordPress blog, but i’m looking for a little more functionality please :)

Basically i have already planned out my entire round world trip ahead of time using TripLine, and will soon be heading off. Like most travellers I plan to blog my travels along the way, and would like to embed a TripLine map at the bottom of each of my blog posts showing the region/ city/ town/ place/ event i blogged about on that occasion.

It’d be great to be able to pass variables to each different embed in my blog, such as focusing on a specific waypoint on my trip, and setting the level of zoom also, so that i could embed the same master trip from TripLine each time, but draw the reader’s attention to the specific place on the map i’ve just blogged about.

Secondly i’d also like to be able to upload my geotagged photos to my existing trip, so that the embed shows the exact places i took the pictures relevant to that blog post.

I know i am currently able to create a Trip from geotagged photos, but can i bulk upload geotagged photos to an existing trip and have them all generate their own waypoints?

I have seen similar functionality offered by the “XML Google Maps” plugin for WordPress ( http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/xml-google-maps/screenshots ) but at this stage i’d like to hear if TripLine might be able to answer my call instead.

    Thanks!

I tried to embed into my post, and it automatically turned into a broken link instead. What’s up with that? I followed the instructions precisely. Do you need to have a paid membership in order to actually embed this?
    Thanks…

    Allison,

Embedding is free to all, so it should work as described above. What did the broken link look like? You can email support@tripline.net with details and we’ll help you out.

Yup, forgot to mention captions in the “What’s not there (yet)” section. I’ll be adding captions soon…and a counter
